The SCR Journey

StemCellResources.org (SCR) was founded by the Biology Teachers Association of New Jersey (BTANJ). BTANJ's goal was to address multiple educational concerns:

1. Universities and colleges voiced concern that the workforce needs of the Biotech industry would outpace the supply of potentially well-trained graduates for jobs in areas such as stem cells.



2. As much of the research on stem cells was discovered after the majority of teachers graduated from formal educational institutions, there was a need for greater emphasis on professional development in this life-science subject area. The challenge was compounded by the rapid pace of change in this emerging field.



3. Although a plethora of stem cell information was available on the Internet, it remained difficult to find or was of unsubstantiated scientific credibility.

The SCR team provides this interactive website as a virtual, one-stop source for stem cell science. We were inspired by the collaboration and cooperation provided by leading experts in both academia and business.

While initially developed for teachers and students, the site has quickly evolved into a dynamic resource of information that is meaningful for everyone.

Owing to our strong favorable initial response by educators, it was clear a broader foundation was required to support this ongoing work. In 2007 BTANJ partnered with Bioscience Network to expand this educational project in both reach and scope, and to supply innovative technology-based delivery solutions to this important material.

We are all stakeholders in science education and progress. We call upon everyone to partner with us to innovate, expand, and extend this collection of links and library of lesson plans.
